Merel van den Berg

More amazing work from Merel van den Berg, who designed my favourite poster/broadsheet series of all time – Crazy Diamond.

“Contribution to a series of booklet’s documenting Annette Krauss’ project ‘Hidden Curriculum’ (2007, Casco Utrecht).

Hidden Curriculum looks at the unintended and unrecognized forms of knowledge, values and beliefs that are part of learning processes and daily life withing high schools. [...]
Examples of this include a variety of cheating methods and strategies that students develop in order to access their own interests during their lessons.

Subject of the booklet is stuttering, and how someone who stutters comes up with (linguistic) tricks to navigate around his/her speaking obstacles.”

Joel Galvez

Great work from Joel Galvez.

“All teachers and students in Rietveld academy were asked for quotes from discussions done in class.
100 contributions were selected and they were put up in the stairways during the open day, and later collected in a book.”

Charles Kalpakian

Bronco & Rex

Nice work from Bronco & Rex, shame there isn’t a description of the projects, so you know more what they are about. Really like the design of the website too.

Spam Annual Report 2007

Not too long ago i was collecting all the spam emails i was receiving in the hope of doing something ‘cool’ with them. Glad i never got round to it, as this Spam Annual Report by Daniel Burger is amazing, unbeatable even.

Rainer Beihofer

This post relates to the previous one. It is another way of visualising the news by Rainer Beihofer. The outcome, in book format is really nice, especially like the graphic shapes.

“VISUALISING THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS OF A NEWSCAST

Ron and I developed a visual system by translating real parameters like responsibility, time, command structure, technics, etc. into graphic parameters. Based on a newly created matrix, we generated a huge amount of abstract graphics which are easy to analyse and miscellaneous to use.

We applied this process analysis tool within our thesis to create and illustrate a book about the development of the Tagesschau, germany’s most important newscast. Beside these graphics of the workflow the book contains all the necessary information about the relationships of the editorial staff and the influence each one has on creating the news of our daily dispatch.”

Folch Studio & Jonathan Puckey

Nice project by Folch Studio.

“This project is a tribute to the individuals who write the headlines for a newspaper published in England called EVENING STANDARD more than three times each and every single day.

This platform including the typeface named TRIVIAL is created and designed to bring hand written and hand made calligraphy into an entire new context. In its core this is all about SPREADING THE WORD and dedicating trivial.

This project is a collaboration by FOLCH STUDIO and QOMPENDIUM directed by Albert Folch and Kimberly Lloyd for QOMPENDIUM.”

This reminds me of a project by Jonathan PuckeyThe Quick Brown.

“The Quick Brown checks Fox News regularely and notes any changes in the headlines.”

Books At Home

After posting about the book co-op Elliot and myself made, Varvara sent me a link to Books At Home, a whole blog dedicated to book shelves. Nice.

Book Co-op

Elliot and I have just finished building a bookshelf, which will act as a book co-op in our studio at university, if you would like to take a book please leave one in its place. If this is successful we would like to build more and have them in different places around London.
